Class Overview

URBAN SADHU FUNDAMENTALS OF YOGA A workshop style class geared for new students, but all levels are welcome to these classes, which focus on the fundamentals of yoga. The course is divided into 4 sections (standing asanas, forward fold asanas, back bending asanas, and putting it together) over a 4-week period. Special attention is paid to alignment using props and hands-on assists according to the Urban Sadhu Method. These are the tools that will form a solid yoga practice for students through their entire lives! Fundamentals Week One: Standing Asanas1st through 7th day of the month Standing asanas reflect back to us our willingness to connect to the earth as we become confidant through stability, balance and form. Fundamentals Week Two: Forward Bending8th through 14th day of the month Forward bending reflects back to us our past, teaching us how to resolve old issues by letting go of past trauma that has manifested as tightness in the hamstrings, the hips and the back. Fundamentals Week Three: Back Bending15th through 21st day of the month Backward bending reflects to us our willingness to move forward into our future with grace and without fear. Back bending asanas relieve tightness in the thighs, abdomen, chest, throat and face caused by anxiety of the unknown. Fundamentals Week Four:Putting It Together 22nd through last day of the month (may repeat 2x depending on the month) This week’s curriculum is a practice through which the integration of the physical, energetic, emotional and spiritual bodies can be experienced and examined.

  • Arrive early for first class to fill out release form.

Urban Sadhu Yoga™ is a method of applying ancient yogic wisdom in a contemporary context. The Urban Sadhu Yoga™ Method is a modern, integrated Yoga method that incorporates many unique aspects of a traditional Yoga sadhana (practice) for the contemporary urban spiritual seeker. The method draws from the ancient yogic wisdom of India – Raja Yoga, Tantra Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Nada Yoga, Jappa Yoga, and Bhakti Yoga – but does not exclude spiritual teachings from other cultures. Spiritual activism is a key component within the Urban Sadhu Method.
