11.01.2012

Owner: Anjali Sunita

Studio locations: Mt. Washington & Hampden

Classes offered: Classes are designed for all levels of experience, from raw beginners to more seasoned practitioners of yoga asanas (postures) and their diverse teaching staff ultimately teaches to the individuals present in the room. Classes include many lineages and styles, including vinyasa, hatha, gentle, restorative and anusara, as well as weekly sessions in meditation, chanting and breathing techniques.  They also offer workshops in complementary healing arts such as qigong, ayurveda, conscious dance and communication.

What makes it unique and why you should try it: Studio owner Anjali Sunita studied yoga in an ashram setting in India and brings traditional yoga to the forefront, with a unique focus on healing and classical yoga. Baltimore Yoga Village's mission is to build on the strength of each individual to create a supportive and peaceful community that fosters integrity, mental clarity, health, joy, and spiritual growth. The studio draws the full gamut of yogis and yoginis; from babies to elderly, its class schedule serves the whole "village".

The studio's Jivan Yoga Teacher Training program brings top teachers, doctors, scientists, and musicians from around the world to teach a variety of topics that put new students at ease and challenge advanced students.  They don't promote any rigid sequences and center every class around wellness, joy, and meeting the students where they are. Both locations offer FREE parking, water and mats, with no hidden costs or fees.

Advice for first-timers: Try a yoga class pass to find a class and instructor that is right for you.  Talk to the teacher before class about your level of experience and any prior concerns so that they can accommodate your needs.
