About the Founder: Mike Maddalena always had to work a little harder and practice a little bit longer in athletics, just to be halfway decent…but he never gave up.  Except for a couple of years in college, there wasn’t a season that went by since third grade when he wasn’t playing a sport, be it baseball, soccer, basketball, track and field, or crew.

For over eleven years he had a successful personal training business, and in 2007, brought some boot camp-style training he had been doing over the years to Piedmont Park.  Soon thereafter he discovered CrossFit, a life-changing moment that drastically improved his body and made him stronger than ever before.  These results led him to obtain his CrossFit Level 1 Certification and ultimately open his own gym, Fitness Battalion CrossFit to help others achieve the same results.

Types of classes offered: CrossFit classes at our CrossFit gym in West Midtown, as well as outdoor fitness boot camp classes at four different locations: three in Atlanta (Piedmont Park, Chastain Park, Old 4th Ward) and one in Decatur (Glenlake Park)

What makes Fitness Battalion CrossFit & Boot Camp unique and why should someone try your classes? Our gym and boot camp are more than just exercise facilities and programs. We have a vibrant community of members who become great friends and are an amazing support group for every member who joins. When you join Fitness Battalion, you become part of something much bigger than what you expect at a typical gym or health club.

Advice for first-timers? Don't be intimidated. Our instructors are great at making you feel right at home from the very beginning. Show up with a good attitude, the willingness to work hard, and get to know the instructors and members. You'll be amazed at the amount of support you'll receive.

Any favorite WODs to share? I have a love/hate relationship with a couple of the girl-named WODs, particularly Helen and Jackie.
