Delicious DIY Greek Frozen Yogurt Dessert

03.01.2014

March has finally arrived. Time to (hopefully) bid farewell to the Polar Vortex and start counting down to Spring.  As the weather gets warmer, say goodbye to hot, heavy comfort foods and start thinking about cooler and lighter meals. And what says warm weather like frozen yogurt? (If you think it, it will come, right?)

Heather Bauer, RD, CDN, a nationally recognized nutrition expert, author, and entrepreneur, shares this delicious, healthy and easy-to-make frozen yogurt recipe. Made with Greek yogurt, which is high in protein and low in sugar, this icy indulgence will knock out your sweet tooth while helping to whittle your waistline. You'll need an ice cream maker, but it's well worth it.

To make:

Combine 2 cups of 2% plain Chobani Greek yogurt, ¼ cup honey and a ½ teaspoon of vanilla into an ice cream maker to yield one pint. If you’d like to add fresh pureed fruit, this is the time to do it. Be sure to blend well! The amount of time the yogurt will need to mix will vary by manufacturer.

The key to a great consistency is the second freeze. After the yogurt is done “pre-freezing” in the machine, place the mixture in your regular freezer for at least four hours.

The result will be a smooth, creamy delight! Instead of honey you can use Nektar Naturals -1 packet is the equivalent of 1 teaspoon of honey.  Grab a spoon and enjoy!
