11.01.2012

Owner: Charlie "Spook" Hilgartner

Classes offered: Indoor cycling classes ranging from 35 to 90 minutes, designed to appeal to beginners, hard-core cyclists, and everyone in between.

What makes it  unique and why you should try it: Not only is InSync Cycle Studio the first and only dedicated indoor cycling studio in the Baltimore metropolitan area, but it also offers these great perks:

  • No membership fees and free online bike reservations

  • Whisper-quiet Keiser M3 indoor cycling bikes with magnetic resistance and power meter computers

  • Two large HDTVs for visual motivation

  • Top-notch certified indoor cycling instructors

  • A great community of riders!

Studio's advice for first-timers:

  • Dress in cool clothing or layers — the workout gets warm

  • Many people wear cycling shorts or padded underwear - although not absolutely necessary, they are great for easing saddle soreness (especially in the first few classes)

  • Bring a bottle for water, towels are provided

  • Sneakers are absolutely fine but “clip-in” cycling shoes also work; SPD cleats are recommended for their brand new Keiser M3 bikes

  • A positive attitude and a smile are always welcome!

Favorite Baltimore spots: Yasou Greek restaurant, Andy Nelson’s BBQ and Hunt Valley Town Center's many stores and restaurants....and walking, running and biking the North Central Trail.

Did you know? Founder Charlie "Spook" Hilgartner is not only an avid cyclist and certified Star 3 Spinning® instructor known for playing great tunes, but also a member of the Maryland Lacrosse Hall of Fame and a grandfather of eight!

To top it off, InSync Cycle's instructors include Ironman, triathlon and marathon finishers, mountain bike racers, yoga and Pilates instructors, a trainer for the Baltimore Ravens and local college sports teams, and an Under Armour fit model.

  • No indoor bike on the market is smoother than the Keiser M3! Biggest concern is the bike's geometery...when the handlebars go up, they also go out @ ~45degree angle... What about the riders that don't reach out that far (under 5'6" start to have trouble)?
