GoRecess Studio Spotlight: Biker Barre; Washington, DC

01.07.2013

Biker Barre

Owners: Jane Brodsky & Katie Fouts

Types of classes offered: Biker Barre has indoor cycling and barre classes. The signature bike class, called the Bike:Ride is a 45-minute cardio party on an indoor cycling bike.  The signature barre class, Open Barre, is an hour-long full-body ballet-inspired toning class.

What makes Biker Barre's approach to fitness unique and why should someone try your classes? Imagine this: You've found the most effective fitness routine in the world, but you hate doing it.  Chances are... you're not going to.

At Biker Barre we have fun! Our bike and barre classes are exceptional - taught by best-in-class instructors and driven by great music. The studio often feels more like a cocktail party than a fitness studio. The environment is social and non-judgmental.  There are almost always friendly faces around starting with owners Katie and Jane who both teach and take classes all the time. Oh, and we have mimosas on weekends!

Biker BarreAdvice for first-timers: Don't be intimidated!  Both classes are great for beginners.  In the bike classes your resistance is self-adjustable, so you make it as hard (or as light!) as you need to.  In the barre class, you're doing it right if your legs are shaking - so no reason to be self-conscious. If it's your first class, come about 15 minutes early to get acclimated and meet your instructor.

Favorite things to do in the Washington, D.C.? We love Capitol Hill!  There's nothing better than a stroll through Eastern Market.  For brunch we love Lavagna and Belga.  For dinner Acqua Al 2 and Hank's Oyster Bar can't be beat.  Lola's is a great cozy bar for a drink.

Did you know? While all of our instructors are fantastic, some of them have been recognized locally and globally for being the cream of the crop.

  • Lululemon named Ali Rodway as an ambassador in 2012 - Ali is a professional life coach who doubles as a stand-up-comic on the bike.

  • Nike has 400 Nike Trainers globally, 200 in North America, and recently named TWO Biker Barre instructors as Nike Trainers: Kim B at the barre and Ingrid N on the Bike.  In addition to the Nike recognition, Ingrid N was also named a Sweetperson by Sweetgreen. We're so proud!
