GoRecess Studio Spotlight: Harmony Studios; West Hollywood, CA

11.30.2012

About the Owner: Karen Schwalbe Jones has built Harmony Studios from the ground up, whilst earning a reputation for results that have helped to establish her and her staff as go-to gurus within L.A.’s celebrity and professional athlete circles–and all those seeking a slim and supremely strong figure with overall improvement in their health and quality of life.

With UCLA degrees in Kinesiology & Psychology and over 19 years of weight training and rehabilitation experience, Karen provides clients with well-rounded physical, mental and emotional health and believes that any proper movement is incredibly rewarding movement. It's all about living our lives well and completely!

Classes offered: Harmony is a movement-based studio offering Power Plate classes, TRX, Circuit and Pilates Reformer and Tower Classes.  In fact, Harmony Studios is the only studio in Hollywood to have Pilates tower classes and the only studio in North America to have three pro7 Power Plates!

Why you should check it out: Harmony offers unique classes in an inviting, nurturing and non-competitive environment that gives back to its clients and the West Hollywood community. Harmony's certified instructors are incredibly experienced, engaged, demanding and committed to learning the newest, most innovative techniques and helping clients understand the importance of their bodies and what is possible.

All of this and more is offered within a spacious, zen-chic and eco-friendly, tranquil environment surrounded by treetop balconies and sun-dappled gardens. Harmony’s 1-on-1 instruction uses state of the art Pilates equipment (including new towers!), a complete TRX Suspension Training setup, a Gyrotonic Expansion System™, a Power Plate Acceleration Station with 3 Pro7 Plates for all your vibration technology needs, and a variety of cardiovascular machines and weights.

Karen's advice for first-timers: Be prepared to feel how different Harmony's classes are!  Many have done gym Pilates classes or aerobics-on-a-reformer type classes but have not received the same level of instruction. Harmony's classes max out at six people to maintain an intimate feel and maximize results.

Karen's favorite things to do in LA: Running any off-road or on, walking her pooches, playing with her kids and hanging out with friends. Her must-visits? Sherman Oaks Farmer's Market, Rose Bowl Flea Market, free art shows between downtown and Culver City, and restaurants from Abbot Kinney to Silver Lake.

Some fun facts about Harmony's instructor team:

Karen: "I have this need to squeeze as many things to do in my day!  In fact, I wake at 4:15am to get it all going!  I LOVE watching the sunrise and would prefer to run when it's dark as to pretend that NO ONE else lives around here (in LA!)."

Elissa: "I admit it. I'm a workshop-aholic. I've tried to quit but can't. I'm a member of W.A. I just love to keep learning about every possible Pilates/yoga/fitness/Power Plate/TRX move I can. Can you help me? Or at least join me in my obsessive quest for knowledge?"

Brian: It is a little known fact that Brian survived what he calls 'The Hot Spots' tour. He was performing in Yugoslavia on the brink of the country's unrest which led to the creation of Croatia and Serbia - and then again was in Tblisi, Georgia during that country's civil war where he had to live in the theater as the hotels were not safe. Good Times!!

Caroline: She sings when she speaks!  It's incredible!  She reminds Karen of the cartoon character, Wiggy, that always says "oh my stars!"!

Ready to strengthen with some Pilates or get some good vibrations on power plates? Check out a class at Harmony Studios today!
