FitReserve Studio Spotlight: Peter Welch's Gym

08.24.2016

Originally founded as a training gym for boxers, Peter Welch’s Gym has evolved into a community center where boxing newbies can train alongside world-class fighters. This old school boxing gym is located in a South Boston warehouse, and offers strength, conditioning, and technique classes for fitness enthusiasts of all ages and levels. Put your boxing gloves on to start learning from the highly skilled, hands-on coaches at Peter Welch's Gym, and keep coming back to improve your cardio endurance, strength, speed, stamina, balance, and agility.

Neighborhood: South Boston

Classes Offered: Fighter Conditioning, Fighter Strength, Fighter Technique

Why We Love It: There is no sense of accomplishment quite like leaving a class drenched in sweat, and waking up the next morning feeling the type of workout sore that hurts so good. Peter Welch’s Gym delivers on both, and kicks your butt into shape while you learn how to kick butt.

Why It's So Effective: Boxing works speed, stamina, strength, balance, and agility, all while revving up the cardio in circuit-based workouts. Both the conditioning and strength classes work the whole body, and the technique class will help you get more out of each boxing workout.

Know Before You Go: Arrive 20 minutes early for your first class to fill out a waiver and get a studio briefing. Gloves and wraps are both required for class, so bring your own or purchase at the studio. Rental gloves are also available for $5.

Don’t Miss: As with all types of exercise, having better form will get you a better workout in boxing. Improve your form and build your boxing technique skillset with the Fighter Technique class.

Added Bonus: You can head straight to the office or happy hour after class, as Peter Welch’s offers locker rooms and showers.
